DESIGN: Tail of Two Cities is a pelican representing both Pensacola Beach and downtown Pensacola. It is painted with the five flags across its body and Pensacola Beach markings on its head. The original artist is Riece Walton who completed a talent art program in New Orleans and received his associates degree from Pensacola Junior College.

The boxer pelican would not be complete without an authentic pair of Jones' gloves in Fiberglas as part of the overall look.

Artist Evan Levin and his family brainstormed for the pelican that eventually will land outside the resort his father, Allen Levin, helped develop. Levin said he painted The Godfeather with the idea that people could take their picture with it.

Keeping the project cause, literacy, in mind, artist Quenby Mitchell designed the bird to have all the letters of the alphabet within the art. Some letters are very obvious, and others are hidden.

Artist Diane Goeller hopes Peli-Queen will represent sponsor Trintiy Collection Jewelry’s passion for jewelry design. Goeller has studied under various world famous artists and is now co-owner of the company “Art on the Go” which represents 24 Pensacola artists. Her work can be viewed at Quayside Gallery in downtown Pensacola. Peli-Queen is one of two of Goeller’s birds in Pelicans in Paradise.

DESIGN: Jeremiah Pelican is so named in honor of Jeremiah Ingraham, the first lighthouse keeper on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Wearing his official uniform, Jeremiah Pelican’s wings are painted to depict scenes of the first and second lighthouses, says artist Gordon Levi. Levi holds a master degree in Industrial Arts Education. In 2004, he designed and constructed the site marker commemorating the 180th anniversary of the first lighthouse located in Pensacola.
